Who Needs Social Protection?

Social protection is key to building the human capital especially of those who are poor and vulnerable. It helps economies and communities grow and prosper. Social protection systems address vulnerabilities by building resilience to future shocks and offering coverage against risk and adversity throughout people’s lives and especially during critical phases. Economically, social protection helps families and households avoid selling off assets, facilitates the structural transformation of the economy, and promotes decent work.

This issue of Intersect Quick Facts (IQF) aims to provide information on existing social protection programs in the Philippines, presents good practices around the world, and provides some recommendations for making social protection more inclusive.
